BOOKING THE VENUE
If you are interested in putting a show together here are the booking rules:
$100 for the show (rate is good through November 1st, 2023)
6pm-12am only because we want to have community activities in the day time.
You can pick your own lineup but we just need to review to be sure no one is a threat to others.
Until November 1st all ticket sales are your own.
Merch sales are your own, we don't take any percentages.
You must follow the venue rules and you are responsible for your crowd that attends. We reserve the right to call your show if you don't follow these basic rules.
1. Line starts at the side of the building, not at the glass doors.
2. Line wraps around the building, not on the sidewalks.
3. Anyone attending the show must stay on the property unless they are leaving. We do not want to disturb the neighborhood and the venue is on a giant lot so there is plenty of room to hang out.
4. No drinking alcohol anywhere, inside or within 100 feet of the property.
5. Pick up your own trash please. If you see trash throughout the night, pick it up.
6. Keep the bathrooms clean, everyone at the venue is a volunteer or band member.
7. Stay off the walls please.
8. NO VAPING INSIDE! The beams were built by an amazing man in the community and it's important to preserve the integrity of the ceiling.
9. That's it for now but if anything goes sideways, the bands will vote on new rules to keep the venue clean and people safe.

HEAT RELIEF AND SUPPLIES
FOR THE UNSHELTERED
Right now we are gathering the following supplies for our friends. Our friends at @friendsatfirstmesa let us know what they need at their cooling center too.
This list was made with their input and experience over the years of helping the unsheltered and we asked a few of our new friends what they would need to make it a little easier out there.
Tarps
Sleeping Bags
Umbrellas
Insulated water bottles
Blankets
Men's Shorts
Men's Jeans
Men's Shoes
Windbreakers
Bus Passes
Movie Tickets or gift cards (helps them have somewhere to go and rest/enjoy a movie)
We are hoping to help them get prepared for the monsoon season.
Please no tents, they are not allowed to pop-up tents in Mesa.

As far as the heat relief goes, we are playing by ear. If we see people out and it is extremely hot, we are welcoming them into the building and providing them with supplies, food, clothes and a place to rest. We are not sure how much long we will be able to do that. We have to raise the money and secure the venue first, so please subscribe.
ABOUT THE PROJECT "WHY'
It has been a wild few days. Thank you to everyone who has been donating supplies, coming to the venue to help with everything. It's been amazing to sit with some people from off the street and just listen to them talk about life. They have all been so appreciative to just get out of the heat and have conversations with us and each other.

Now that it has cooled to 97 and under, we are just taking the time to organize the memberships and try and secure the venue going forward. Hopefully with this weekend's push for funding, we can open back up on Monday to let more people inside to escape the heat. While they are here we tell them about other resources that are in Mesa, within walking distance. Oftentimes we drive them when those places are open. Most resources have very limited open days and times, due to volunteers and funding. We have been meeting with those organizations and resources the last week as well so we can help fill any gaps they have and spread the word about what is available to those in need.

We refuse to post photos of them at this point because we noticed that preserving dignity is really top priority and making them feel welcomed and as equals when they come inside. Some have asked to be interviewed and we hope to do that once we secure the venue. We also have a solid list of suggestions/observations of minor adjustments that would hopefully have a large impact on the community around 400 N Pima. It's no secret that drugs have really taken over this area. When we say drugs we also never mean marijuana. It's legal now for 21+ or 18+ with a med card, we are only talking about opioids, especially the street drug "blues." While booking shows and throwing events we have witnessed the need, not only for another venue but also a place where young adults can make a positive impact together in the community. As of now the only venue in Mesa (that is available or affordable for locals) is the Nile Theater and they are regularly booked with national names and other local shows. We are forever thankful to Michelle at the Nile Theater for the countless things she has done for Mesa, the homeless, the music scene, all of us. As Gift and Thrift, when we started booking shows, ticket sales were low and shows were just starting to come back after the pandemic and time and time again Michelle, voided our invoices to help us continue to try and book local acts. At the time there was a common theme amongst some bands that they didn’t need to sell tickets. As a new promoter/business we just wanted to help throw shows. We didn’t realize that some bands were betting on us being the ones to make sure tickets were sold. When we were younger, throwing shows, we sold physical tickets, made posters, told our friends to be there or never talk to us again (just kidding). We think with the digital age of things, it can be harder to get people out to shows. Luckily that seems to be turning for the better and more people are coming out to shows, more flyers, posters and memories are being made. We are happy to see these young people out and about with each other.

Back to funding or we won’t have a place to even talk about....
For now we are calling this project Mesa Art Society since it is a collaboration of a few bands, artists and organizations.
To secure the venue the landlord has said that we need to give him about $4k by Monday. Luckily he is a pretty super rad guy and I am sure we can just come close and keep working towards our goal.
If you are interested in coming to any shows here at the new venue, we strongly suggest signing up for the $10 membership which gets you into all the future shows.

9/1 we had our first large show and we were at capacity in the first 20 mins when the doors were open, with a line of another 150 people outside. If you're a member, you'll be first to get into the shows when doors open (you’ll get a 10 min window to be in or cut the line). Otherwise shows are still first come first serve.
